Baltimore, MD. Chances of a mechanical error escaping detection are infinitesimal in the Social Security Board Records Office and great care is excercised to guard against human error. After the employee master card has been prepared, and before it is sent on to reproduce an acturial card, indexes, registers and a individual ledger account. It goes to a review section. Here the original application and the master card are brought together and checked for error. Checking is done by a team of two workers, and the few errors which have been made are corrected. Reviews of errors are reduced to a minute part of one perscent. The photograph above shows a part of the review section at work

Utilizing two recent developments in electrical communication. the Army today demonstrated its ability to communicate instantaneously between its Washington Headquarters and its various units in different parts of the country. the test consisted of a long distance telephone conference call over circuits normally employed for commercial telephone service. Here it is cutting two identical floor plates for a tank section at the bottom of a new member of the "Liberty Fleet." The work is done at what was formerly a freight car plant now a large Eastern plant. All parts are prefabricated in this huge Eastern plant which formerly turned out freight cars. Non-ferrous materials are burned out and the steel chassis and bodies are sent on to scrap iron and steel dealers.
